I just received my Richard Franiec custom Leica D-Lux 4 Grip (CGDL4). What a beautiful piece! I have not field tested the grip, but so far it feels fantastic and my hand has made sweet love to it.

The grip is lightweight and has a nice smooth finish: “Individually 3D CNC machined from solid block of aircraft-grade aluminium before being glass-bead blasted, black-anodized and nickel-sealed for durability and good looks. ” Keep in mind the black on the D-LUX 4 is slightly darker than the grip’s black. Not enough to put a damper on the Leica design with this combo.

As you can see from the picture above, the grip is attached with “VHB (very high bond) 3M transparent (clear) transfer film”. Per Richard, removing the grip in the future will not leave residue or damage to the original finish of the camera.

The grip came with easy to follow installation instructions and from my experience it was simple to line up and attach.

The grip costs $29.95 + $3.00 shipping within the U.S. ($4.50 for international orders). As long as the grip doesn’t fall off in the future which I doubt it will, I would have paid double the amount. The OEM Leica grip which looks horrific to me is priced at a whopping $115 (Ouch! You little red dot!).
